Mentor Information

Our mentor, James M. Westbrooks, is a medical communication consultant and also a renewable energy resources specialist.
He sometimes cooperates with Force Communications, but he mostly works with his family company, Pangolin Inc.

We asked our mentor a couple of questions, and here is what we learned.

There are a couple of solutions to our energy crisis besides perpetual motion: solar, hydro, wind, and geothermal energy is clean.

We also learned that nuclear energy is also clean, however the risks outweigh the reward. Ethanol is also a clean energy, which is good for greenhouses gasses. However, it too has a drawback; the corn. Ethonal gas is made from corn, and if we used that as our primary fuel, we would have to increase the amount of corn produced, destroying even more of the world's already decreasing forests. This, in turn, would decrease the amount of carbon dioxide being taken out of the atmosphere.

Our mentor told us that this fight is really an uphill battle. There isn't a lot of motivation to solve this problem. First off, we use so much energy that our society would completely collapse if we abolished our use of electricity and fossil fuels. No one in the first world is going to be affected by a one or two degree change of weather. People already spend so much of their time in climate-controlled places such as houses and cars.

Another reason is that the fact that no one is getting paid to solve this problem. Littering used to be a huge problem, but someone figured out a way to make money out of picking up litter. No one has found a way to make money out of reducing the carbon footprint.
